Promised Land 2012

Promised Land (2012) สวรรค์แห่งนี้ไม่สิ้นหวัง

Promised Land Steve Butler has caught the notice of the top management of his company, Global Crosspower Solutions, an energy firm that is specialized in obtaining natural gas trapped underground by a process referred to as fracking. Butler has an excellent experience in quickly and cheaply persuading landowners to sign mineral rights leases which grant drilling rights to his employer. Butler and his wife Sue Thomason arrive in an economically struggling Pennsylvania farming town whose citizens are proud to have family farms passed from one generation to the next. Coming from a town and a life very similar to that of the people he is now determined to win over on behalf of Global, Butler tells the story of how his own town died after the local Title=”Caterpillar, Inc.”>Caterpillar assembly facility assembly plant was shut down. He is not a believer that a town can survive solely on its farmsteads, which were passed down through generations. He claims to be offering the town its last chance. Butler enjoys a relaxing after-hours time with Alice who that he runs into in a bar.

Global’s proposal was accepted by the local community. But, Frank Yates (an elderly high science teacher at the school) raises concerns regarding the security of fracking at an open town hall. The residents are required to vote within a few weeks to decide if they want to agree to the proposal. Following the announcement of the vote, Dustin Noble, an unknown environmentalist, begins an online campaign to oppose Global driven by the story of his family’s loss of its Nebraska dairy farm when the herd perished due to Global’s fracking method, which is industry standard.

Butler is now beginning to meet resistance from the town. Noble appears to have won over everyone, even Alice. Global delivers to Butler an item that is an enlarged version of Noble’s photo of dead cattle in the Nebraska field. The larger size of the image shows that an object that was thought to be a silo actually a lighthouse. Lighthouses are nonexistent in Nebraska, revealing that Noble fabricated his story and deceived people. The photo was taken in Lafayette, Louisiana which is which is where Global is currently in the midst of a suit concerning environmental problems that were probably caused through their Fracking practices.

Butler informs the mayor of the town about the deception, who then informs the remainder of the town. Noble is seen taking his truck off and getting ready to leave the town when returning to his hotel. Noble accidentally admits that he had seen the Lafayette image of the lighthouse. Butler is aware that the only way Noble could have known that information was the event that he had been employed by Global as Noble’s task was to undermine the environmental movement, and to convince the town to approve of Global’s proposal. He arranged for Butler to receive the “confidential” photographs and arranged the entire public relations effort.

The citizens will vote on Global’s plans to buy drilling rights for their land at a town meeting the following day. Butler discusses with them how the barn on the photo is reminiscent of his grandfather’s barn. Butler reveals that Noble has manipulated them and has been working for Global. Butler quits the meeting to call Thomason via phone. He is told he’s fired by her and will leave for New York. Butler goes to Alice’s home and she welcomes him in.
